The Body Adiposity Index formula is BAI = hip circumference in cm ÷ height in meters1.5 − 18. The result is often interpreted as an estimated adiposity percentage.
BAI uses hip circumference and height, while BMI uses weight and height. BAI can be useful when weight is unavailable, but neither replaces clinical body composition testing.
Stand relaxed and wrap a tape around the widest part of the hips and buttocks. Keep the tape level, snug but not compressing the skin, and measure after a normal exhale.
