It uses a compound depreciation formula: estimated value equals purchase price multiplied by (1 − annual rate) for each year between purchase age and estimated age.
The default 15% is a general estimate. Use a lower rate for vehicles that hold value well and a higher rate for high-mileage, damaged, luxury or quickly depreciating vehicles.
