STEP 01🏠
Enter roof footprint
Add building length and width, then choose roof type so the footprint reflects the roof planes.
STEP 02📐
Apply pitch and waste
Pitch factor converts flat footprint to sloped roof surface; waste covers cuts, hips, valleys and overlaps.
STEP 03📦
Order roofing units
See roofing squares, shingle bundles, underlayment rolls, ridge caps and estimated material cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

It multiplies the building footprint by a pitch factor based on rise over 12, then adds your selected waste allowance and rounds roofing materials up to purchasable units.

A roofing square is 100 square feet of roof surface. In metric mode, the calculator still converts to roofing squares for common shingle estimating.

Simple roofs often use about 5–10% waste, while hip roofs, valleys, dormers, steep pitches or patterned installation may need 12–20% or more. Always verify with your roofer or supplier.
