Bag fill volume, moisture content and bulk-yard policies vary by supplier, so round up when delivery minimums or uneven ground apply.

Calculate your baseline first
Multiply length × width to get square feet, multiply by depth in feet, then divide cubic feet by 27. This tool uses the equivalent shortcut: square feet × depth in inches ÷ 324.
For lawn top-dressing, a light layer is often around 0.25–0.5 inches. For new beds or leveling, several inches may be needed. Match depth to the project and avoid burying existing grass crowns.
Bags are convenient for small patches and tight access. Bulk delivery usually makes more sense for larger jobs, especially once you need multiple cubic yards or dozens of bags.
Results are estimates generated locally in your browser from rectangular area and depth inputs. Actual topsoil required can vary with slopes, compaction, moisture, screening, uneven ground, supplier bucket size and delivery minimums. Confirm bag volume or bulk-yard policies with your supplier before purchase. VisionVix accepts no liability for decisions based on this output.
