How is wire weight calculated?
The calculator finds the circular cross-sectional area, multiplies it by length and conductor count to get volume, then multiplies volume by material density.
Does this include insulation?
No. The result estimates the metallic conductor only. Finished cable weight is usually higher because of insulation, shielding, filler, armour, and jackets.
Can I calculate stranded wire?
Yes, when the entered diameter represents the equivalent total metallic cross-sectional diameter. For precise stranded-wire calculations, use the sum of all strand areas.
Which density is used for copper?
This calculator uses approximately 8,960 kg/m³ for copper. Real alloys and manufacturing specifications may differ slightly.
