The calculator converts height to the selected unit, then computes a z-score: (height − average) ÷ standard deviation. The z-score is converted to a percentile using a normal distribution estimate.
You can enter a custom age-specific average and standard deviation, but child and teen growth interpretation should use official sex- and age-specific growth charts and a qualified clinician when health decisions are involved.
Percentile is always relative to a reference group. Changing the country, sex, average height or SD changes the comparison baseline and therefore changes the percentile.
