How is corn yield estimated?
The calculator estimates ears per acre from the sample area, multiplies that by average kernels per ear, and divides by an assumed kernels-per-bushel factor.
Why does row spacing affect the result?
Row spacing changes the land area represented by your measured row length, which changes the estimated number of ears per acre.
What kernel factor should I use?
About 85,000 kernels per bushel is a common midpoint. Use 80,000 for larger kernels and 90,000 for smaller kernels.
Is this the same as final harvested yield?
No. Actual harvested yield can differ because of moisture adjustment, kernel weight, field loss, and harvest conditions.
