Frequently asked questions
Is this an official federal sentencing calculation?
No. It is an unofficial educational estimator based only on the offense level and criminal-history category entered by the user.
Does it calculate my offense level?
No. Determining the correct offense level can require selecting the correct Chapter Two guideline, applying relevant conduct, enhancements, reductions, grouping rules and other provisions.
Can a judge sentence outside the displayed range?
Yes. Statutory limits, departures, variances, mandatory minimums, cooperation, safety-valve rules and case-specific factors may affect the final sentence.
Which Guidelines Manual does this use?
The embedded table is labeled for the 2025 Guidelines Manual, effective November 1, 2025. Always verify the manual applicable to the offense and sentencing date.
