Wet mortar is based on the net wall area and mortar thickness. Dry material volume uses a 1.33 conversion factor, then cement and sand are divided according to the selected mix ratio.

How much extra mortar should I allow?
A 5% to 15% waste allowance is common. Complex layouts, uneven surfaces, and beginner work may require more.
What mix ratio should I choose?
General masonry often uses 1:4 to 1:6 cement-to-sand. Structural or specialized work should follow the project specification.
Why is dry volume higher than wet volume?
Dry ingredients contain air gaps and reduce in volume after mixing, so a conversion factor is used to estimate the required dry materials.
